The Least Of These 5-23-10

Well, have I made a difference
or held to some indifference -
for children still in need?

And tell me who I comfort
with many in discomfort -
and who have I to lead?

And what's my information
or worse, misinformation -
when only words I plead?

Or do I have a passion
for these, a great compassion -
and does my soul bleed?

So tell me, what's my mission
this one and great commission -
whose actions of mine seed?

And is there rich nutrition
or is there malnutrition -
and will my harvest feed?

And what is God's solution
to my new resolution -
and will His Word I heed?

And if correct decision
can trump my indecision -
He'll harvest souls indeed!

Matthew 25:40 (KJV)
And the King shall answer and say unto them,
Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me.

Patient One 9-19-09

FOR MANY YEARS they crowded me -
they grew so very tall...
but you, my Lord, had stunted me -
created me so small.

They pushed me off and stole the sun,
and rose up to the sky...
but every year You held me down,
and I had wondered why.

The winds and rain blew very hard
beneath them I was crushed...
and you, my Lord, had gone away,
my silent screams were hushed.

For many years this happened -
and they'd ignore my plea...
and you, my Lord, seemed not to care,
when they would laugh at me.

---

So many years have passed since then -
a hundred years or so...
yet you, my Lord, answered my prayers,
and patience helped me grow.

A million weeds had laughed at me -
yet long ago they passed...
and you, dear Lord, protected me,
just as my prayers had asked.

For many years Your little tree -
was pushed around by weed...
but oh, dear Lord, You strengthened me
and met my every need.

And now today, I tower high.
I'm seen for many miles -
but oh, dear Lord, You taught me well,
and humbled all my smiles.

A Greater Crown 9-14-09

This big old world has judged me
and here, this is what they see -
an old and crooked branch that
once had held a potpourri,
but though I want to speak up
I can only set here mute -
and now they often wonder why
I'm void of any fruit.

It matters not what others
think as they bear fruit instead -
and though they judge me mightily
and think me almost dead -
their branches, burden heavily
with fruit that makes them droop,
as they clan up together in
one big and happy group.

None have stepped into my sandals
nor has drank from my own cup,
and they haven't my experience
and do not know what's up.
So this is why they see my branch
is bare from day to day -
for every time I grow some fruit -
it's given fast away.

Sometimes I want to keep some
as I really am in need,
but there's a voice that whispers
with a wisdom true, indeed.
Rewards aren't really needed
on this land of earthly sod,
for a greater crown awaits me
from the true and living God.

"And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty."

OUR TRUE NEED 2-10-07

.
We don't need a job or new tires for the car.
We don't need vacations to travel afar....
We don't need more money, power, or fame.
And we don't need to know who won what game.

We don't need a furnace to heat our new houses.
We don't need a diamond to buy our spouses.
We don't need potatoes, gravy and meat.
And we do not need to go out to eat.

We don't need more presents for under the tree.
We don't need to "buy one and get one free".
We don't need to rake all the leaves from our yards.
And we don't need more charges on credit cards.

You might think this poem a little bit odd,
But what we do need - is more faith in God.
Put it all in perspective, no need to discuss....
We need more of Jesus - and a lot less of us.

Who, What, Where, When, Why? 12-18-06

I claim inside, there is no greed -
-But just one important need.
He knows, for others, I've done much,
Therefore, give me this - I plead.

Who do I see in the mirror?
Who do I hear in my ear?
Who sets me high in position?
And whom do I put in the rear?

Who do I see in the mirror?
Who do I hear in my ear?
Who sets me in this position?
- It’s God who has put me here.

"What," may I ask, "is my purpose?"
What must I do to be glad?
What has obstructed my pathway?
And what seems to make me so mad?

"What", may I ask, "is my purpose?"
What must I do to be glad?
What has obstructed my pathway?
Selfishness - it makes me sad.

Where in this world is my present?
"Where", might I ask, "is my gift"?
Where's that thing that matters to me?
And where's my emotional lift?

100% 12-7-06

I hear you say, "I need that car-
look, shiny paint and chrome!"
But listen up you foolish one,
it's breaking up your home.

Your spouse is mad, your children cry,
your bills are piled high.
It's envy, greed- not self-control.
It's just a sinful lie.

Trust in anything will wither,
no matter how it shines.
Time rots and rusts our newest wants,
can you not see the signs?

So turn your head, and turn your mind,
away from all that flaunts-
and set your eyes on God above.
Ignore all other wants.

Now should you hold back hope in Him,
a quarter or an eighth?
No, put ALL trust in God above,
oh, ye of little faith!

The armor from our God above,
shall never rust or dent-
by faith in God who meets our needs,
one hundred full percent.
