I Wonder 6-4-11

Sometimes I wonder how a tree
can stand the way it does -
so crooked, gnarled and twisted.
I wonder what it was...

What made it lean way over -
its shallow roots in mud?
Or was its last encounter a -
tornado?  lightning?  flood?

Though I am not an expert,
and haven't much, a clue -
I've often looked at people,
and wondered how they grew.

Opinions leaning way too far
with grumpy, creaking sounds -
they're true, 'un-timbered' miracles
with such unbalanced pounds.

But God still pours out blessings.
His grace forever flows -
and nourishes the lazy root -
no matter how it grows.

Sometimes I wonder how a man
can stand the way he does -
so crooked, gnarled and twisted.
I wonder what it was...

Greater Power 5-4-08

.
A volcano could inspire me,
when sulfur’s flames shoot higher;
But I turn from temptation
and run from hellish fire.

An earthquake could defeat me,
when its shaking takes my feet.
Though I might fall or stumble
I'll not quit or retreat.

A tornado could surround me,
in deafening roaring sound;
but oh, if I am humbled,
I'll lie still on the ground.

A storm or flood could swallow me,
when sheets of water fall;
but of God's truth, Noah knew,
faith floats above it all.

Gods powers - the world will always see,
above and throughout the sea;
still, I'm amazed with greater power -
that He can still love me.

POSSESSIONS 8-28-05

This was written on Aug. 28th 2005, coincidently the day before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.

Your house is big and beautiful.
It's filled with the very best treasures and antiques.
Your clothes stuff the closets.
Your food stuffs your shelves (and your mouth).
Your pictures prove your happy life.
Your furniture is tops.
Your yard is trimmed with the most beautiful white picket fence.
Your garage is filled with every toy imaginable.
Your car in the driveway is the envy of all the neighbors.
And just maybe your life is full of fun and more fun.
You have it made...
Today.

But of tomorrow you are unaware.

A hurricane or tornado carries it far away.
Or a flood floats it all away.
Or a fire devours it all.
Or an earthquake swallows it whole.
Or your heart stops.

God is in control of every breath we take.
And we deserve our medicine.
-But like an angry child.
WE get mad at HIM.

The echo carries on.
From 2,000 years ago.
Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.

Man slows no tornado.
Man stops no flood.
Man quenches no volcanic fire.
Man cancels no earthquakes.
Man will not live forever.
Man is not God.

Believe in yourself, or believe in God.
It is your freedom of choice.
